Ten Rules of the Birthday Wish blog tour

Wish #6 You must close your eyes

When you make a birthday wish, you must close your eyes.

Do you still make birthday wishes? When is the last time you blew out the candles for your birthday? I honestly cannot remember the last time I blew out birthday candles! However, it is such a blessing to see kids celebrate their birthdays and experience that excitement with them just like we did when we were kids!

In Beth Ferry and Tom Lichtenheld’s new picture book, Ten Rules of the Birthday Wish we learn about all the rules of the birthday wish and it is ADORABLE! This book would be the BEST birthday gift for a child, in fact, I kind of want to purchase a few copies to keep on hand for birthday gifts! Books are my favorite gifts to give someone of any age!

About a month ago, my daughter turned three and we planned a Peppa Pig-themed birthday part with all her favorite people. It ended up snowing several inches on her birthday weekend and we were worried that we were going to have to cancel the party.

We told her that some of her friends might not be able to make it to her party because the snow made the roads hard to drive on.
She closed her eyes and I braced myself for a meltdown and then … she opened her eyes and said, “Ok!” Which seems to be her go-to answer if you give her a solid reason why. If you just say, “because” and not tell her the real reason why, she will meltdown.

I wondered though ... was she making a wish when she closed her eyes? A birthday wish maybe? Well, if she was making a wish, it came true because her friends came over wearing snow gear and carrying sleds and everyone had a blast sledding in our front yard! Thank goodness for four-wheel drive vehicles!

Definitely check out this sweet book. The rules are perfect and the little extra reasons why behind each rule really add to the story, I know my daughter appreciates the reasons ... ;)  I could definitely see this being read at a birthday party before blowing out the candles or in the classroom before sharing birthday treats.

Be sure to hop on over to the blogs below and check out the rest of the rules for the birthday wish! And next time you blow out the candles, make sure you close your eyes! It’s the rule!
