Class Favorites & Must Buy Books for Next Year

I've been out of school for nearly a month, and I haven't read as much as I'd like to have (I blame Kelle Moye for encouraging me to binge-watch season 2 of 13RW). Aside from catching up on Netflix series, I've been reflecting on the school year. Like many of you, I ask students to complete surveys at the end of the year. Nearly all of my students read more than last year, and the majority of them said it was because they had access to books they liked. These reflections guide not only my teaching for the next year, but the books I buy for my classroom. Below are the 10 most popular books read this year along with that author's upcoming book.

If you were wondering, books 11-20 were:
#11-The Border by Steve Schafer
#12-Adultolescence by Gabbi Hanna
#13-Gym Candy by Carl Deukker
#14-Alone by Cyn Balog
#15-All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven
#16-Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli
#17-Time Bomb by Joelle Charbonenau
#18-Love, Hate, and Other Filters by Samira Ahmed
#19-S.T.A.G.S. by M.A. Bennett
#20-Sunny Side Up by Jennifer L. Holm

(As I type this, I'm noticing so many favorites were realistic fiction-probably because it's what I read the most. I need to be cognizant of this next year and be sure I'm book talking all genres and formats.)
